Stepping out on the water

Lately, I have been working through a decision. I have weighed the pros and cons countless times and really it sounds like a great opportunity.

But...

Sometimes I just want God to spell it out clearly for me, as in give me the signs and then I will follow.

However that’s not the same as stepping out in faith is it!?

How about you?

Have you ever had a big decision and had to step out, not fully knowing what the outcome will be?

Signs following….it’s so much harder to do, then give me a sign and then I will follow.

I wonder if it’s a bit like stepping out of the boat and walking on water.

As a kid I would sit on my dock, the top step of the ladder beneath my feet was barely below the surface. I would pretend that I was Peter, stepping out of the boat and walking on water! The feel of the water between my toes and the hard surface of the wooden step made me think that maybe, that’s what the water felt like below Peter’s feet as he stepped out in faith and walked on water!

What about us, when we take a step, what signs will follow as we take that step in faith?

I get stuck in the unknown. It’s so difficult to know what will happen and I wish I could see the future. However, as I wrestle with this current decision, I know that I need to step forward and then God will work.

So, where do I go to find out how to do this? I turn to God and find comfort in the fact that He created me and He knows me.

In Psalm 139:14-18 it says “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous-how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”

Ever wonder if God is waiting with excited anticipation as we step out?! He already knows what will happen because it has been laid out before we were even born.

And He excitedly awaits to bless you as you step out in obedience to Him!

Do you ever consider that God’s goal is to lead you along the path everlasting?

Psalm 139:23-24 says “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you. And lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

So regardless of what you choose, know that God’s ultimate choice and plan for you is an everlasting one.

I think one of the best indicators that it’s ok to move forward is the peace that envelops you

Phil 4:6-7 says “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Truthfully I cling to those verses. They are a few of my life verses that go with me through everything!

God’s peace, there is just nothing else like it!

So as you make your decision today rest in knowing that God knows you. He knows you intricately. He has good plans for you and as you pray, pray that His peace will fill you with the right decision.

Then step forward in faith and watch what signs will follow.
